Positions for Structural Biology at the
               Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI)

Four positions at all levels and for a variety of projects
and background expertise are immediately available at the groups
of Anastassis Perrakis and of Titia Sixma at the NKI in Amsterdam.

The Netherlands Cancer Institute / Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital
(NKI/AvL)in Amsterdam is an integrated cancer institute, combining a
hospital and a research laboratory under one roof in a single,
independent organization. NKI is expanding its engagement to
Structural Biology, by the formation of a new research group
(Anastassis (Tassos) Perrakis) which will complement and strengthen
the existing Structural Biology group (Titia Sixma).

Bacterial (E. coli), yeast (Pichia pastoris) and
Baculovirus / Insect cells expression systems are established
in the laboratory, including a fermentor. Fully equipped
biochemical laboratories for both groups are situated
to the main research building in close contact with the
other research groups which in many cases are active collaborators.

In-house X-ray diffraction equipment, state of the art computing and
software for doing macromolecular crystallography are well
established. Synchrotron beamtime at EMBL-Hamburg and at the JSBG
(ESRF/EMBL-Grenoble) beamlines is regularly available.
In collaboration with the Electron Microscopy group of P.Peters
an EM fully equipped for cryo-EM work is purchased and will be
available within the next 6-9 months, for work in single particle
image reconstruction.

We are looking for people at a variety of levels and experience,
ranging from the pre-doctoral level to post doctoral scientists with
an emphasis either on structural biology, drug design or methods
development for macromolecular crystallography and for technical
research assistants for biochemistry. All contracts are available
immediately and guaranteed for 3-4 years (depending on position)
with possibilities for extensions, depending on circumstances
at the time. A total of four (4) contracts are available
at any of these levels, the only restriction being to identify
candidates with an enthusiasm for structural biology and a
background either to molecular biology, biochemistry,
crystallography or computing, which will allow them
to integrate and contribute to the reseach objectives
of our groups and the NKI in general. There is a variety of
biological projects, mostly in close interaction with other NKI
groups.
