Xplor3.851 crashes on Compaq Alpha running Tru64

Hi--
I'm trying to get xplor3.851 running on a ES40 on loan from Compaq
to see how it runs! I wanted to compare results to some older runs I
have but several of my jobs keep crashing. For example,

xplor<self_rot.inp
....
XPATRT: of those the 4000 highest peaks will be used
%VEHEAP-ERR: could not satisfy storage request for 23588103 bytes
 Subroutine DIE called . Terminating

Interestingly these same jobs run just fine on my SGI which has 1/3 the
amount of memory and swap space. This make me think it has something to
do with the kernal limits but I don't know which to change and by how
much!

Potentially pertinant iinformation:
# ulimit -a
time(seconds) unlimited
file(blocks) unlimited
data(kbytes) 262144
stack(kbytes) 16384
memory(kbytes) 2038936
coredump(blocks) unlimited
nofiles(descriptors) 4096
vmemory(kbytes) 4194304

# swapon -s
Swap partition /dev/disk/dsk0b:
    Allocated space: 786432 pages (6.00GB)
    In-use space: 1 pages ( 0%)
    Free space: 786431 pages ( 99%)

Total swap allocation:
    Allocated space: 786432 pages (6.00GB)
    In-use space: 1 pages ( 0%)
    Available space: 786431 pages ( 99%)

# sizer -v
Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.0A (Rev. 1094); Thu Aug 24 21:07:45 2000

Thanks in advance for any and all insights!
