Upgrade successful: Rapid Access Beamtime Available

The renovations of several beamlines at the NSLS are nearing completion.
X12-C is available now with about three times the intensity it had before
the shutdown. Beamtime is available now, and other beamlines will be
available soon.

If you are interested, please address the web site:
http://www.px.nsls.bnl.gov and follow the pointer to Rapid Access. There
is also the possibility of courier-based (FedEx) data collection.

One can find information about the beamlines and the apparatus available
from this web site. The detector in place now at beamline X12-C is the
B1.3 from Brandeis. The detector is 10cm square, is read out as a 2k x 2k
image, and can resolve approximately 150 diffraction orders across its
face. (Spots from a 150 Ang. axis can be resolved in normal-beam mode to
2 Ang resolution.)

Also, all who are not U.S. citizens should please read about the new
"indices" checks (form IA-473) that must be made before a visit to BNL:
http://nslsweb.nsls.bnl.gov/nsls/users/procedures/foreign.htm

A Research Resource Grant from the National Institutes of Health is
providing enhanced support for users to the NSLS. Work is being done
under this grant to extending the state of the art in macromolecular
crystallography in both computing hardware and software, use of modern
detectors, application of multi-layer monochromators to provide hotter
beams, and multiple-beam phasing of protein structures.
