File name: hcd-search.1.2.tar.Z (390 kb) Brief description: The Human Gene Index (HGI), ex- Human cDNA Database (HCD), at the Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) is the most complete, non-redundant, and structured collection of human expressed DNA sequences available to date. Sequences and other data in the public section of the database can be retrieved by any user now. A standard HGI search, carried out either by e-mail or by WWW, involves composing and sending queries one by one and this can become time consuming if many queries must be sent. Moreover, a large amount of time is required thereafter to process the results. The HCDSearch system automatically composes and sends the queries by electronic mail using information provided in a text file. It also greatly accelerates results' processing, generating lists of HGI numbers and library identifiers in a format that renders them very easy to examine. The programs run on unix platforms. Contains documentation, executable files, demo files, and source files. These programs are free (as is access to HGI; you may want to have a look at the TIGR homepage (www.tigr.org) for more details on accessing HGI). To download the HCDSearch 1.2 package: ------------------------------------- (1) Ftp hcd-search.1.2.tar.Z onto your system in binary mode. (2) Type "uncompress hcd-search.1.2.tar.Z". (3) Type "tar -xf hcd-search.1.2.tar"; this will create the "hcds" directory. (4) Type "cd hcds" to change directory to hcds. (5) Read the README1.2 file to find out how to continue.
